Massage

Massage is one of the oldest forms of healing. It is a drug-free and non-invasive way of helping to relieve pain and stress. It is well acknowledged in the medical community that stress is the number one cause of dis-ease. It can help you cope better with life’s challenges and has been shown to be effective in helping to reduce anxiety and relieve depression. If physical or mental stress is getting the better of you, it's time to schedule a massage at Amadeus Center in New Haven.

The main types and techniques of massage therapy and bodywork can be broken down into the following categories:

Swedish Massage

Through use of a firm but gentle pressure to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation Swedish Massage reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management/prevention.” Dr. Bernie Siegel, noted author and speaker, recommends Swedish Massage prior to receiving aggressive western medical procedures-- radiation, chemotherapy and general surgery.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle (trigger points, muscle fibers, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments).
Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish Massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist uses different techniques to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as adhesions). Don’t worry it shouldn't hurt, but it is likely to be a bit more uncomfortable than a classic Swedish Massage. So please always feel free to speak up if the pressure is too much for you. This is our most popular massage.

Hot Stone massage

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones for added comfort and relaxation.
They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. River rocks are normally used. The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The massage therapist may hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body. The stones may also be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system. Some massage therapists place stones on points that are thought to be energy centers of the body to re balance the body and mind. For an exceptionally relaxation experience try Hot Stone Massage.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is used to equalize muscle tension throughout the body by stretching the myofascial component that surrounds each muscle and each muscle fiber. It goes from the top of your head to the soles of your feet and surrounds each organ of your body as well.
Unequal tension causes the muscles to pull on the joints along the spine and other areas of the body that then compress the nerves and send a pain signal to the brain. The brain often responds by sending a signal to guard the area which leads to further tightening. Thus the pain spasm pain cycle that must be corrected in order to bring relief.

Cranial Sacral

Cranial Sacral Therapy addresses the rhythm of your cerebrospinal fluid. This is a core fluid in your body which bathes the brain and the length if the spine. Its rhythm is like the ebb and flow the tides rather than the pulse of our circulatory system. Trauma can cause blockages that affect this rhythm and the function of the nervous system. The goal of this therapy is to release those blockages in your core river. This therapy is subtle, but powerful, and profoundly relaxing.

A Cranial Sacral session involves the therapist placing their hands on the patient, which allows them to sense what is called the craniosacral system. Gently working with the spine and also the skull, the restrictions of nerve passages are eased and the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord is optimized. Craniosacral therapy is used for for stress, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ syndrome, and other related chronic pain or intermittent conditions.
